The Cat Showcase

These are some of the cats I have come to know at the Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin, IL.  They are all available for adoption.  I am a volunteer there and not an official spokesperson for the shelter. I just love cats. Some of the cats showcased here have challenges(not all) and are passed up again and again, but no less loveable than the next cat that may get adopted.  They are my babies and would love the best forever homes for them!

Introducing:

Alvin: brown, grey DSH tabby.  Likes to sit in your lap and go to sleep. Very nice cat. I have never seen him get mad or aggressive. Plays like crazy with a laser beam!(FIV+) Adopted January 2014!

Blackie:  Jet black DSH female about 3 years old.  This lady was locked in a bathroom for ~3 years with her siblings by her previous owner, because they were afraid they would scratch furniture!  She growls and hisses at me, but will let me hold her and sit in my lap. Surprisingly, she will let children pet her without growling! I don't understand her! BTW, she went into foster care along with Tiger in mid 2013!

Donovan:  Jet black DSH, male.  Very friendly and active.  Recovering from a tail injury. Adopted

Ginger: Very pretty, bi-colored DSH male cat with orange tabby marks. Likes to sit in your lap.  Kind of an all-business, no frills cat.(FIV+).  Now allowed floor time during the evening since he has a tendency to bolt out the doors in the daytime! Adopted Spring 2014! NKA:  Ranger

Little One:  Orange tabby, DSH male. A small cat that is actually @ 2 years old. I don't know him that well, but he is coming out of his cage finally, only to just sit in the activity room. He looks at you with these expressive eyes that just melt your heart! (FIV+) After 3 years at Anderson's, Littles was transferred to Tails in Dekalb, IL.  It was a shocking move to many of the volunteers, but it turned out good from him and he was adopted rather quickly, within a few months!  8/2014!

Loverboy: bi-colored, DSH cat with orange tabby markings. Very active, playful, fun, and he does live up to his name!  This jail-breaker has no attachment to his cage whatsoever and is an expert at slipping through one's hands if his cage is opened.(FIV+) One of my personal favorites! :)  He would be a great addition to a family with young boys as he is just as energetic and rambunctious!  Adopted Sept 2012

Majken:  gray DSH tabby, sweetest thing. Can hold her for hours. Bi-lingual cat, understands BOTH English and Swedish. Her name has Swedish origins. It makes me think someone of serious Swedish roots once owned her. I tried speaking a few words in Svenska to her and to my surprise she took notice of me!  Adopted Oct 2012!

Memphis:  Bi-colored black and white, DSH male. He looks small for his size but is actually @ 3years old.  He is very active and plays like crazy with a laser pointer.  He does have some behavioral challenges, sustained bad injuries to his head and neck as a kitten, but consistently working with him he has made progress enough to walk in and out of a carrier, walk on a leash and be with one or two other cats peacefully. Euthanized Dec 2013

Miss Ellie: Pretty DSH female calico print.  Ok once she gets used to you.  Probably the happiest day of my experiences there was when we finally had her playing with a laser pointer and bouncing balls.  All this from a cat that initially would growl and shred one to pieces!  She still gets hissy when she has to go back to her cage. (FIV+) Adopted by her foster parent.

Oliver:  Classical orange DSH tabby.  Very nice, quiet. Likes to stay out of trouble!  He is a lap cat. (FIV+).  Adopted June 2012!

Roxanne: This lady likes to chew plastic and paper!  She is a project, but hopefully she will come around one day and go home with someone! Went into foster care @ spring-summer 2014

Snowball:  All white DLH.  Very nice, even with a total stranger.  Adopted 4/2012!

Thomas: classical orange DSH tabby. Very nice, likes to sit on your lap. He is a bit anxious in the shelter environment and tends to over groom himself, this is why he is wearing that hideous bib.(FIV+)  Adopted sometime in 2012!

Tiger:  Classical DSH tabby, female. in foster care with Blackie! Both adopted

Timber: bi-colored grey and white, DSH cat. He has one eye due to losing the other to an infection when he was a kitten. Despite growing up in the shelter, he is still quite affectionate and definitely knows his way around the place!  Update:  Timber has gone home with a Vet.  He is not doing well in the shelter environment and was biting people. Taken home by staff June 2012. Have not heard anything else about him.  Leaves me to wonder....

Talullah:  Pretty, loving DMH female cat.  One of the favorites of many of us. She looks like she has Maine Coon bloodlines running through her.  (FIV+) Adopted sometime in 2013!
Tidbit:  Pretty Calico DLH female cat. Pretty big eyes.  I don't know if I can claim she is a Persian but that is up to the beholder!  She is inquisitive with her surroundings.  She tends to be growly, but I don't know if that's just her way of purring!  Recently, she sat down on a perch next to me.  Quite good progress for her. Adopted @ spring-summer 2014

Victoria:  Bi-colored cat, grew up in the shelter.  She has this raspy, whiny growl that is more sad than scary! Takes meds for epilepsy. Adopted fall 2013! This one adoption brings much happyness to the shelter community!
